Find out which pair of earrings will best compliment your features. Kasmin Fernandes presents a handy guide.
The right earrings will draw attention to your face and enhance your most attractive qualities. Although small in size, earrings have a major role to play in your entire ensemble since they sit closest to your face. It's not enough to match your earrings to your outfit; it's equally important to consider if their length, shape and design match the shape of your face, if you want to look fabulous from head to toe. For instance, round hoops soften the angles of a rectangular face while long and thin earrings balance out the curves of a round-faced woman.
This season is all about statement earrings. Bold, strong and big on impact, they appeared on the ramps in the form of danglers, shoulder dusters, chandelier, and teardrop earrings. Here's how to match the trend to your particular face shape. Know your face shape
Oval
You have an oval face if your forehead is as wide as your cheekbones, and your face narrows down from the cheeks to the chin.

Square
You have a square face if you have a strong jawline, and your forehead, cheeks and jaws have about the same width.
Celeb connect: Kareena Kapoor Khan
Narrow
A narrow face has the same characteristics as a square face but is elongated.
Celeb connect: Ileana D'Cruz
Heart-shaped
Your forehead is wider t han your cheeks, which in turn taper down to the chin.

Diamond-shaped

Celeb connect: Bipasha Basu
Don'ts
- Never let your earrings compete with your necklace
- Don't wear small hoops if you have a square or round face
- Avoid chunky ear cuffs if you have a round or square face
- Do not wear thin dangles if you have a square face
Drop dangles
A combination of teardrop and dangle earrings, drop dangles are a hit this season because you can go as long or short, flat or multi-dimensional as you want. They best accentuate the features of narrow and diamond-shaped faces.
Do: Pick dangles with multiple drops in jewel tones to add depth to your facial features.
Behind-the-ear cuffs
Tuck your hair behind the ears, and flaunt a pair of behind-the-ear cuffs that take the ear cuff trend to the next level. These chunky statement pieces suit narrow faces and heart-shaped faces the most, since they lend depth and dimension. If you have a round face, look for dainty pieces.
Do: Look for golden ear cuffs to wear with ethnic or fusion outfits.
Diamond-shaped chandeliers
Chandelier earrings combine two popular ear accessory designs - studs and drops. Diamond-shaped chandelier earrings, which are heavy at the bottom, balance out the sharpness of a diamond or heartshaped face.
Do: Experiment with pearl or gemstone-studded chandeliers on western wear.
Studded dangles
Wide or thin, made from diamonds, beads or metal, dangles are usually straight and hang way below the earlobe. An extreme variation of dangles are shoulder dusters that are so long, they reach up to your shoulders. They flatter round and square faces by making them look angular.
Do: Pick a pair of dangles studded with a gemstone at the tip for a pop of colour.
Teardrop earrings
Simply put, teardrop earrings are shaped like a teardrop or dewdrop, and tend to hang below the earlobe. They look best on women with an oval, round or heart-shaped face, since they minimise the curvature. Oval gemstone earrings also look great on these face types.
Do: Pick a pair of teardrop earrings with pearls since their smooth curves mirror the gentle curves of your visage.
